On-the-Go Art Satchels

We are planning on heading down to Ulladulla this weekend, which means we will probably go out for dinner at least once. My kids are generally quite well behaved when we are out, but colouring in always keeps them happier for longer.

I've been wanting to make them some crayon rolls for a while now, but when I saw the On-the-Go Art Satchel Tutorial on the Lovely Little Sweetpeas blog I knew it would make a much nicer and waaay cuter end product.

Ollie was happy to get a photo with his.

James - not so...

I actaully made three of them last night. One each for Ollie and James and one for another little friend who will be joining us for our weekend away.

The modifications I made to the tutorial are:
 - I used webbing for the straps instead of making them. It was only 50c per meter so much easier and quicker
 - I made the outer out of a stiff denim which meant I could omit the felt or interfacing for the inner.

We're off this morning to buy some new roll up crayons to go in them as there is no space for a pencil sharpener in the case and lately the kids have been bugging us to sharpen their pencils at the dinner table.

  1. At a glance - very cool. Will need to sit down and work out how they work.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I love reading them, but don't always have the time to respond. Please email me if you have a pressing question :)
