Oh you own an overlocker, now you can sew track pants....

Ummmmm 'NO'!

I can't remember how many people said this to me when I got my overlocker, but there were alot. Now even if I wore track pants, I don't think I'd ever sew them - boring! I did however recently venture into sewing fleece and the results are.... ummmm..... not so good.

I made this hoodie for Ollie as he's in need of some warmer clothes. He really only has two wearable jackets and one with a broken zipper that he now refuses to wear. So with a little half priced fleece from the recent Lincraft sale and $2 spider jersey I embarked on making this Heidi and Finn Urban Unisex Hoodie, which is pictured below.

Mine doesn't look as good as theirs. In fact mine looks really, really, really home made!

There's a few quirks in this design that I'm not so keen on and I'm not to sure my choice of fabric was suitable. I used fleece and jersey, but jersey and jersey would have been better.

There's ALOT of bulk to sew through when attaching the waistband which makes it super difficult and in my case super messy. I also think the waistband is an unnecessary feature and it would look better as a regular open jacket with the buttons off centre.

I'm so unhappy with this end product that it will be for wear around home only and I'm not going to attach the buttons. In fact Ollie took it off the second after this photo was taken.

Anywho - I've packed the fleece away for a little while. I will try to make this again, but definately with some modifications.

  1. hmm I think there is alot of discrimination against fleece in your household. I think it looks good though I can see what your saying about sewing through all the bulk. I had though about using the pattern as an open jacket too. See you soon.
