I think I may have mentioned that we've been moving rooms in our house. I've been rather spoilt these last few years, enjoying a massive sewing area to work in. Seriously, a whole 40 square meters or so of space, just for sewing and housing an unused spare bed. Jealous??

So tell me, make me feel better, do you have the same amount of sewing crap?? Or is your stuff so manageable that you wouldn't need to worry about moving it? Please tell me I'm not the only one!
You are more normal than you think. I am currently in the process of packing up my house to move. I have started packing up my craft room. I have these giant bar fridge boxes I've been using to put all my supplies in, they're about 2 metres x 1 metre. I've filled 6 of these giant boxes so far. I haven't finished packing yet either....
ReplyDeleteYou are completely normal. I just moved recently and even I was surprised at how much stuff i had and I only have 10 pieces of fabric but add in quilting batting, books, thread, patterns. yikes there were some 8 or so large packing boxes. Unbelievable.

ReplyDeleteHello Little Betty, I have been reading your blog for a while now and really enjoy your stories. I dream of a sewing room. To put some background in, I once had a huge 10m x 5m room complete with built-in storage, enormous windows and tiny ensuite. Then we moved to Melbourne. And while I got a much bigger house, there wasn't a dedicated sewing room. So I needed to condense down to a Horn sewing cabinet. Mum scored big time from the stash, I only kept a few treasured pieces of fabric and all my patterns threads & notions (because they didn't take up too much space). This was OK because I also had two small children and worked full time outside of home so sewing was pretty much non-existent. However those children are at high school now (not that it is any less busy, just different busy!) and I now only work part time, and I wanted to get back to sewing because I miss it. Making bits & pieces over the years, e.g. daughter's first communion dress, a couple of gradutation dresses for friends, some fancy dress outfits, reminds me how much I miss the creative process. So now I schedule a day in my diary and have a concentrated block of activity as sewing now has to happen in the meals room and has to be packed up at the end of the day. The positive of this is that I am much more productive and tidier. But oh, I dream of a room where I can just shut the door......
ReplyDeleteYou think you have a lot of stuff. Check out my older posts on my blogspot to see the very unlikely and uncreative space I have been working in. The sailor has decided I definately need a attic room! So I can hide buttons trims etc. I am working on creating a more productive space that is actually atrractive to be in....Good luck
