Playsuit for me

When I evaluated my wardrobe for this summer, I realised I needed a playsuit and now I have one.
The pattern is an Etsy download from Salme patterns which you can see here.

I made this out of a piece of stretch poplin from my stash. It closes with snaps hidden under the facing and is cinched at the waist with elastic. The pattern was easy to construct, but did take some time. I initially sewed the facings wrong which made me a little cranky.

I also added belt loops like the pattern photo, even though the instructions for these weren't included. Speaking of instructions, they were a little sparse. They are probably a little more vague than Burda style instructions, so I definitely wouldn't recommend this pattern to a beginner, but anyone who's sewn Burda could definitely make this.
I purchased a size small pattern and took it in about an inch along the back seam and then about the same across the front. I made a similar size change to the shorts. I really didn't want this to puff out too much when worn and the stretch poplin has enough give for comfort.

I think this is quite a cute little outfit for my wardrobe, but I'm still not convinced it's entirely appropriate for a 30+ year old with three little kiddies to wear a playsuit....

We'll see.

  1. Cute playsuit! Is it comfortable to wear? I made so many playsuits back in the early nineties that I don't think that I can return to this fashion, but I am enjoying seeing other people where them.

  2. Oops, grammatical error there. I course I meant "wear" them.

  3. Oh Christy, you are so adorable, i love it!! With your sweet looks & figure, you'd get away with that with the yacht set in your 60s!! One of my girls has a long procession of play suits (denim ones too) & she rocks them, her seriously toned armed & olive skin just make a sack look fantastic. I love the belt, such a cute addition. Make more, in different colours, although, being your 'vintage' you will no doubt remember our childhood terry toweling jump suits?? Hmmm, love Posie

  8. Oh I think that romper looks very chic on you and not too juvenile at all! Only the word "playsuit" makes one think of small children. So does " romper" for that matter. Im over 40 and I have one or two so don't worry!

  9. Wow, great job! You look amazing in it, and I agree with everyone else that it's not too juvenile. It's going straight to my to-do list for next summer!
Thanks for linking back on my blog :)

  10. ooh, fun! I think the fact that you made it in solid black makes really sophisticated. Not juvenile at all. The belt loops are a nice touch, too. Looks cool and comfortable!
