It's official!

I've now finished university F_O_R_E_V_E_R!!!!!!

I completed my last assignment yesterday and got a grade immediately. I have no more assignments and no  more university commitments, in fact, I never have to go back to university ever, ever again!
I'll officially graduate in December, but even then I don't have to go back as I've nominated to graduate in absentia - meaning they'll post me my Masters certificate thingo.

Many of my uni friends don't understand why I would miss the graduation ceremony, but for some reason it really doesn't interest me. One friend even nominated to purchase the gown and cap from her undergraduate degree to keep. She says she sometimes makes breakfast wearing it, which I think is totally hilarious. Almost funny enough to do it myself.

Even though it has been much harder to get my masters than my early uni qualifications, I'd rather save the money I'd have to pay to graduate on campus and instead buy a nice bottle of bubbly, get some take-out and hang out at home with the kids and hubby.

So tell me, did you attend your graduation? Did you secretly wear your gown and cap around the house?

  1. Firstly - CONGRATULATIONS! That is such a massive achievement.
I attended graduation #1 as a 21 year old. Didn't bother with graduation #2 as a 24 year old (did that one in absentia). I did attend graduation #3 as a 36 year old, with Mum, Dad, husband and 18 month old daughter proudly in attendance. That one was the most difficult of my degrees and the one I had the best results for, so I'm glad that I went. But I certainly didn't purchase a gown and cap!

  2. Congratulations - you did it and made it through with flying colours!!! I also attended my first graduation in Sydney, my second in Armidale, but gave it away by the time of the third. Been there, done that, and ticked it off by then. But one thing I did do was to buy the hood and stole for each as a little memento of the occasion. If you ever teach in the Private sector you will need these at end of year speech nights. Off you go now and open the bubbly...

  3. I didn't attend #1 at 20. I did attend #2 at 21. I haven't even bothered getting the certificates sent out for anything since. I've never bought the gown and hat and never intend too. I'm not really the ceremony-type. I even eloped to avoid attending my own marriage ceremony.

  5. Congratulations!!!! You should be very proud of yourself. I never went to Uni so have never graduated, but I think I'd opt for the champagne if it was me! :) Always up for a drink I am! enjoy!!!

  6. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I have graduated three times. Once was my first uni degree, I went and I was excited. The second one TAFE, I had been there, done that, so I didnt bother. The third time, I should not have bothered. It was boring, I had my 9 month old daughter who didnt want to be there and so my husband spent most of the ceremony outside to avoid the stares. It was at hot as hell in the hall, and the speaker bored you to tears. Blow off the ceremony and spend the money you will save on fabric.

  7. YAY! Oh man, I wish I could be with you to crack that bubbly. You've worked so hard and you must ENJOY any and all 'selfish sewing' you get to do in the next few weeks and months.

and yeah, no grad ceremonies for me neither

  8. Super huge congratulations. I've graduated four times but I've only attended the ceremonies twice. I haven't purchased the gown. In fact I doubt I can put my hands on some of the actual degrees. That comes when you move a trillion times.

  9. I didn't bother going for my Master's... although if I'd been in the right city I might've. If I do manage to pull off this PhD thingy, I really really want to go to that graduation. SOMETHING to feel like it's all been worth it ;).

    CONGRATULATIONS!

  10. Attending my graduation was one of my proudest days of my life - but then again I didn`t have children to worry about back then.

  11. Congratulations on finishing your Masters, you must be so happy and relieved! When I finished mine about 4 years ago I swore never again, but lately I have found myself perusing the uni websites. Luckily I got pregnant and that put that crazy idea to bed again.... I went to my second graduation ceremony at the insistence of my husband (who went to all 3 of his!), but I have left the certificate still in the envelope it came in.
