Remember this Op Shop find? Well I finally finished modifying it and I must say, it's pretty darn cute!
I took the advice of the marjority of comments on the original post and made the sleeves 3/4 length with a small turned up cuff on the edge for a little fun. I took the dress in about an inch along each side seam and sleeve. I also completely re-set the sleeves to resolve the over sized shoulders, which was a massive challenge. They aren't perfect, but I don't think any non-sewer would notice the extra fabric around the armscye.
It's quite a bold dress and the fabric is quite loud. While I do love it, I'm not sure I'm going to have the guts to wear it. What do you think? Anyway, if I don't wear it in the next month or two, I might just cut off the skirt portion and wear that.
Wear it! It's wonderful! Nothing to dislike about that dress - and it's always nice to make a statement.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks fantastic and not too loud at all. Definitely wear it out - it would be a shame not to!
ReplyDeleteI think it's lovely! you did a great job revamping it.
ReplyDeleteIf it were me, I would wear it in cold weather with a big black cardigan and black boots. That might tone down the print a bit (not that *I* think it's loud, but it might help you feel more comfortable in it). I might wear too many big black cardigans though so beware of fashion advice from me!
What an awesome job! No one but you would see any problems :) It's a bold dress, but it's beautifully bold, wear it, you look lovely
ReplyDeleteWell I love it - seriously gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIt's fab!
ReplyDeleteYou need to wear that dress it looks great! I was a bit the same when I made myself a top covered in polkadots. I liked the idea in my head but I wasn't sure if I'd actually wear it but I love it now! I think it might just grow on you.
ReplyDeleteAlso I second the motion to wear it with tights and a cardi to ease yourself into the print if you feel you need it.
Go on, do it. It looks great. I would team it with a brown belt:)
ReplyDeleteI don' think its loud at all. It's unqiue. There is a difference between unqiue and loud. I like how it has a light tint of blue.
