Good mistakes.

I ordered this fabric by accident, but now I'm kinda happy with this mistake.
When it arrived, I was super cheesed off. The last thing I needed was more navy fabric in my stash! I wanted the orange/red colourway, but sent the seller the wrong link. Totally my fault. I should add that the fabric is rather nice with lovely softness and drape - just the colour wasn't what I wanted... or so I thought!

You see, over the weekend, a short trip to the Op Shop turned up Simplicity 9867 and I knew I had a match.

Such a simple pattern... once you look past that horrible, plaid dress with gathered sleeves or the ruffled version or that hair!
I love that I can wear this fabric with yellow belt and shoes.
Red belt and shoes
or tan belt and shoes. Versatile huh?
I made a straight size 10 with changes made to the length of the hem and that I finished the arms with bias tape.

Considering this is an 80's pattern, it's still really cool and not too 80's at all, in my opinion.

Pattern: Simplicity 9867 c. 1980 = 50c
Fabric: 1.5m silky cotton from Cottonholic = $21 inc part shipping
Thread and elastic: $2.60
Total: $24.10

  5. That's a great dress - doesn't really look 80s at all to me (although I kind of like the 80s... well parts of it).

  10. What great work, such a lovely dress and looks so flattering on you. Just wanted to say that I am really enjoying reading all your blog posts and seeing your sewing, even if I don't make it to the commenting bit (I do a lot of reading in Google reader while I am feeding baby at the end of the day). Keep it coming, can't wait to see what you do next.
