Even though I'm trying to limit my dressmaking, I just couldn't help making this one.
This is this second time I've made Vogue 1236, my first is here. I really find this style of dress so easy to wear. It's a dress, but not a dressy dress.
The fabric is Liberty called Velvet Love Leaf. I originally purchased this to make a dress, but procrastinated over cutting into it as I was trying to convince myself that I should make a shirt. I'm happy with the choice I made.
I finished the dress yesterday with the intention to wear it to work today, but then Sydney's weather suddenly changed. Can you believe our dam is full and overflowing? I think I'm going to leave the water running while I brush my teeth and peel the potatoes tomorrow to celebrate. Hopefully it won't rain for too much longer, and I'll be able to get a few more days of dress wearing without tights before winter.
Not much else to say about this frock. It's fast and easy to make and I highly recommend this pattern. I did modify the shape slightly to reduce the tulip poof in the middle. I do find my other Vogue 1236 a little hard to wear some days with the extra poofiness.
Dress cost:
Pattern: Vogue 1236 - used before = free
Fabric: 1.3 m Liberty from Shaukat = $33 approx inc part shipping
Thread: from stash
Total cost = $33
Speaking of Liberty, I have received a few emails recently regarding sewing with Liberty and lining Liberty. Liberty is extremely easy to work with. It's doesn't slip, slide or fray, but it can be nerve racking to cut at times. Liberty also washes really well and often only needs a light iron, if it has been line dried.
I don't always line my Liberty garments. If I wear this or any other Liberty dress to work (school) then I will probably wear a slip. If a dress is darker and has a full skirt, I probably wouldn't wear a slip for regular wear.
Speaking of School, I've also received a few questions recently about how I am going with this new teaching gig. Well things are going well. Actually far better than I expected and I am LOVING it!! I am currently getting 3-4 casual days each week and it's really fun. I am working just at one school right now, but hopefully will get into another school next term, well if I have any spare days left.
My husband isn't working tomorrow, so maybe I can bribe him to take the kids grocery shopping so I can sew....
This style suits you so well Kirsty, another lovely dress :).
ReplyDeleteI finished making a blouse last night (I know shock horror-I've actually made something;)) but it rained so much today there was noooo chance for taking a photo!
Another great dress. I think you made a good choice making this fabric into a dress.
ReplyDeleteAnother cute dress. The fabric is so lovely. I've got this pattern but I'm not sure I can pull off waist-ties like you. If I ever make it, I'll remember to reduce the poofiness.
ReplyDeletePerfect dress for easy wear...good choice for your Liberty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dress, it's those simple summer dresses that get you in. The Liberty print is gorgeous too, had a quick look at their website the other day and was having heart palpitations at the awesomeness!
